The feminist revolution has brought
about changes and achievements in women's status at home and in society. Many
women experience greater equality in sharing the household burden, enjoy
financial independence, and have assumed senior roles in the academic world as
well as in business and management.
With all these achievements, many still
face one stumbling block – managing our own money, our key to economic security
and personal freedom.
As it turns out, even women who handle
large budgets and construct business balance statements are still apprehensive
about managing their personal and family funds and leave the financial management in
the hands of their partners. A Feminanci course graduate wrote: “Actually
I give up a large part of what is mine – indeed placing it in good and loving hands
– however, these are not my own hands”.
Financial management has always been
considered the man’s domain and women did not acquire the tools, understanding
and awareness to deal with the financial world, though their ability to do so is
in no way inferior to that of men. Women have equal or higher aptitude in
mathematics, science and financial management, but they are considered
‘inferior’ to men in these areas, simply because they are not given and do not
take the opportunity to prove their capabilities.
